We are looking for volunteers who are able to speak in public about the reality of living with sight loss, and about our organisation’s work to support people who do. We are particularly keen to hear from people with lived experience of sight loss, although this is not a requirement.

Whatever you do, you will be joining a dynamic team who will welcome and support volunteers to have a positive and rewarding experience.

What’s included in the role?

In this role, you will be giving talks and presentations about our work and about the experiences and needs of people who have sight loss. We will make sure you have clear guidance on topics to be covered along with any key messages we’d like you to share.

You’ll be volunteering as a member of our marketing team, although you’ll be delivering talks in a range of settings and to a range of audiences. This might include community groups, church groups, potential funders, schools, and much more. Your volunteer manager will support you and provide relevant details and guidance for any speaking opportunities that you could help us with.

There will also be opportunities for you to develop this area of work by researching and contacting groups and organisations that may be interested in inviting a guest speaker.

This role is likely to involve some travel, and we can cover your expenses for this.

Why should I volunteer in this role?

This role is a real opportunity to develop your skills in public speaking and to talk to others on a topic you are passionate about. You will meet a range of local groups and people.

Type of role:
Ongoing role, volunteers are needed all year round.

Also suitable for time-limited volunteering, e.g., join us temporarily for a single event or project.

Any restrictions?
To apply for this role you should be at least 14 years old.

Suggested Time Commitment:
Flexible times and days. This role is likely to involve at least 2-4 hours of volunteering per month. However, it could potentially be more often during busier times if you have availability.

For more than 230 years we've been supporting and empowering people with sight loss to live fulfilling lives. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, but we want to do more. We will build on our rich history to create an organisation which is prepared for the future, and ready to respond to the needs of people impacted by vision loss.

Our vision is bold. We want to be at the leading edge of positive societal change by:
•    Investing our funds in the support that makes the biggest difference
•    Putting our community at the heart of what we do
•    Campaigning for change
•    Accelerating prevention and treatment of eye conditions
•    Fostering a collaborative culture of innovation and learning

We're determined that no-one should face sight loss alone. We're committed to improving, diversifying and growing our services to make sure we can reach many more people with sight loss - when and where they need us.

Our organisational values - Transform, Unite and Thrive - underpin all the work we do at Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans.
