Sight Scotland is seeking to employ a skilled and enthusiastic individual to lead on the development and launch of Scotland’s first Sight Loss Councils in the Central Belt and Dumfries and Galloway. For this role we are particularly seeking someone who not only is passionate about the cause, but who is blind or partially sighted themselves, with the ability to use their experience to be an effective voice to influence the lives of blind and partially sighted people and create an effective change within Scotland. 

Sight Loss Councils are led by blind and partially sighted volunteers and a consortium of charities made up of Sight Scotland, Sight Scotland Veterans, Visibility Scotland & Thomas Pocklington Trust. Sight Loss Council members use their lived experience to identify and tackle local and national issues to improve the accessibility of services. The work of Sight Loss Councils is driven by three key priority areas: Employment and skills, Health and well-being, Inclusive Communities.

Building on the success of Sight Loss Councils in England, we are seeking an individual who has excellent communication skills, experience of working with volunteers, good project management skills and is passionate about amplifying the voice of blind and partially sighted people to lead on this exciting and innovative project.

This role will operate on a hybrid working policy. There will be desk space and support in both Sight Scotland’s office in Edinburgh and Visibility Scotland’s office in Glasgow. Colleagues work on average two days a week from our offices with the days depending on the needs of the business and the rest may be worked from home.
