The Independent Living Team provides person-centered support to veterans living with sight loss and those who care for them, regardless of age. We aspire to ensure veterans living with sight loss and their families feel supported, have the capacity to manage, and develop strategies that allow them to reach their full potential.

We’re looking for safe and reliable volunteer drivers with their own cars to offer transport to our veterans over short distances.

You will help us to improve the quality of life of people using our services and play a vital role in easing isolation.

What’s included in the role?
In this role, you’ll typically be picking veterans up from their homes to drive them to their local Sight Scotland Veterans community groups, and ideally, taking them home again afterward. From time to time, you might also help with important trips such as taking a veteran to their doctor or similar.

As part of this role, you may also need to guide a veteran to and from your vehicle, and perhaps into the activity they will be attending or back to their own front door. We will provide you with training for this.

Any restrictions?
To apply for this role, you should be at least 20 years old and have held a full driving license for at least 3 years.

Suggested Time Commitment:
It’s likely you’ll be volunteering at least 2-4 hours per month, although this can vary a lot depending on local needs and your own availability. Times and days by agreement with your volunteer manager. Please note that volunteers are only needed during normal office hours, i.e., Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

This role would suit someone who is looking to volunteer with us for at least six months.

We're one of Scotland's oldest charities - for more than two centuries, we've been supporting and empowering people with sight loss to live fulfilling lives. We're proud of all we've achieved in the past - but we have our sights set firmly on the future.

We're determined that no-one should face sight loss alone. We're committed to improving, diversifying and growing our services to make sure we can reach many more people with sight loss - when and where they need us.
